herringbone

Another baby quilt top is finished

I have admired this pattern for ever , the doing was quite simple

I used a fat quarter pack but a jelly roll would be even simpler

I'm all for simple

4 prints + a solid
sewn into strip sets & cut on a 60 degree angle
half left facing & half right facing
sew into vertical rows

matching all those vexing little seams
sew rows together & trim top & bottom
add a border & it's done

2 things I don't like about the way I put this together

1)  I didn't like the waste of fabric ... there is a fair bit

I have seen another method of staggering the strips which would create less waste

&
 2)  the top & bottom edge was a bit wobbly after trimming

Having said all that I think I'll do a pinkish one

This is my new huge Liberty & linen tote for fitting absolutely everything I need

It measures 19"x 15"

The handles have a 12" drop so tucks comfortably under the arm.

It was constructed using the quilt as you go method onto bag batting .

ps the cake is a banana , walnut & chocolate loaf

a variation of a Nigel Slater

birds flying

Not sure what the traditional name for this variation of half square triangles is called
I'm calling it  "birds to the nest " because they are all heading towards the centre

I have combined 2 charm packs of Chicopee with a grey linen

Am pondering the need for borders ???

Feeding the neon obsession some more with this ribbon & neon pink binding

delicious :)

Thanks for looking & have a good one

this week

I finished this Swoon one block baby quilt

& sent it on it's way to London with my eldest who is still in the air .
Flying time is 23 hrs but more like 30 door to door.
It's always a sad day when our kids go back to their lives in London , NY & Sydney .
It's the price we pay for our well travelled , accomplished offspring & us living in the Land Downunder /Faraway .

more loopy quilting

Love this line of fabric
Geekly Chic by Riley Blake
perfect for a pouch to hold my glasses

AND to line a silver metallic linen zip pouch

Ongoing projects include the quilting of the Neighbourhood Quilt

and the improv quilt which is growing & half done .

We had the great pleasure of seeing Erin & Jonty married on Friday & these flowers from our table came  home with us .

a week's worth

I have quilts in all stages of completion this week.

This one is all done !!

It was constructed using an ombre  jelly roll of Simply Colour

it is quilted in a pebble design by Leone at House of Quilting

Next up is a  neutral gender baby quilt for a work colleague

pattern from Moda Bake Shop

Neighbourhood Charm Quilt by Esch House Quilts

It's quick , easy & very cute

My obsession fascination with Denyse Schmidt designs is as strong as ever !

this image is taken from Pinterest & I can't seem to track the original source but am quite sure is an

original DS work

These blocks are the beginning of my version

One day I'll get to  a Denyse Schmidt  improv workshop

lots of stash additions

I've just had a rather large birthday & part of the "Jubilee celebrations " as my husband has dubbed it

was  10 days in Sydney

where I went berserk in the shopping department

These luxe metallic linens however were ordered earlier & waiting when I got home

I LOVE these !!

these too ....for  a few baby quilts coming up

Backyard Baby  by Patty Sloniger

In Sydney I paid a visit to a local fabric designer in Darlinghurst

and found this white/grey linen & some lovely heavier linen in a grey/green shade

These cute FQ packs from A day in the Country have tonal prints & lots of dots

The best last

some Japanese prints & a small pile of Liberty new season

hoping to get slicing into this lot soon

Happy Wednesday
