feels good

This quilt top seems to have taken such an age to finish & it does feel good to have it all done !!
Off to the quilter with it now ....far too big for me to attempt .
It is a monster .....100" x 100" for my king size bed .
It was quite difficult to get a decent image , there is no space big enough & cats were lurking around ready to perch on it , so excuse the ordinary photo.

It is made from my collection of blue Liberty print lawns & will look fine in my blue & white bedroom .
I hope .
I will never alter a pattern again .....it caused much distress & unpicking .
The pattern is from this book by Brenda Riddle

red and pink

My quilt top pile is growing .... must now call a stop to all new ideas until I get on with some quilting !!
This is a quilt chosen by & made for my sister-in-law Adrienne .
She lives a few hours away so we spent a long phone call & simultaneous online fabric browsing on the weekend in an attempt to choose the backing fabric .

Considering her first choice was to be gold & cream silk we have come a long way !
Her exposure to some Kaffe Fassett books did the trick & she claims to love it so far .
By the way have you seen the TV show Kirstie's Homemade Home ??
It shows in Australia at 7.30 Thursdays on cable , I think the series is nearly finished but Kaffe featured in one episode .
Kirstie visited his home ..... fantastic .

Using up a charm pack of Wonderland by MoMo was easy & yet another bag is made .
I am not usually a lover of patchwork bags but this fabric has won me !

fair loot

One little bag is not too greedy , is it ??
Today I braved the crowds at the Brisbane Craft & Quilt Fair & had a fine time checking out the fabric & gadget stalls .
I also had a road test on the Bernina 820 & was very impressed .
Mostly impressed with the stitch regulator in free motion quilting mode .. my stitches have never been so even.
At $7000+ I'll be having a good long talk with myself about the prospect of one residing my sewing room.

Here are my goodies
the gadget is a de -fuzzer for fabric ( my cardies need de-pilling )
a ruler with directions for cutting log cabin strips ...do I NEED this ??? maybe
some lovely fat quarters : orange dots , linen & blue dots , some cute solids & some beautiful Kokka purple linen with blue polka dots.

I have been needing some more canvas webbing for bag handles & had forgotten where I had bought it .
There was a eureka moment when I spied it at the lovely Be Be Bold stall. So I bought many meters in red , black & linen .
To round off the loot is some sweet linen tape with red stitching .

home from byron

Home from my beach break & back to business feeling much refreshed .
Swam in the blue , blue waters & walked the hill to the lighthouse each morning .
We saw whales as they plopped their way south & a pod of dolphins playing around .
We were startled by a wallaby as it hurtled through the forest .
There was also plenty of time to fit in some sewing & I was able to work on a few things .

The beginnings of the Kaffe Fassett "Rosy Romantic Quilt " from the Quilt Road book .
& some thank you gifts to be sent to my sister-in-law in California.

And a tote for Jan my pressing assistant from the Rouenneries fat quarter collection .

Waiting at home was some sweet Christmas fabric from the very clever Aneela .
Thanks so much .

I love it & will be spending many hours gazing at it & planning before I go anywhere near it with the rotary cutter !!

Yesterday , our last day at Byron was a sunny ,sparkling day & it was not easy leaving this !!
If you look very hard you might be able to see the whale in this picture , I just caught the last of him before he dissapeared into the blue.
