I had to really think about this one !
It was a toss up between my very first quilt & a special quilt made last year.
I chose this one.
About this time last year we discovered that my 25 yr old son had a tumour deep in his brain.
So he had 6 months of pre-op tests .
All the while we were preparing ourselves for the complex & risky surgery necessary to remove the slow growing but damaging cyst .
It had already caused deficits in some major cranial nerves.
Worst part for me was the risk of damage to the vital nerves supplying face , sight , hearing & balance during the surgery that would leave him disabled .
My son had great respect & trust in his surgeon & this gave us all the reassurance we needed so badly.
The surgery was very long & difficult but our son is now completely recovered ... no deficits at all.
So this quilt was made by THE most grateful mother , for Robert Campbell , neurosurgeon & our hero !
It is a traditional block which started out as Lady of the Lake but somehow ended up as Birds in the Air, I cried a lot making this . It was machine pieced from lots of indigo civil war reproduction fabrics & a navy & cream shirting. Bound in red. Backed in a large navy & red paisley design fabric.
It was machine quilted by Cathy Davies in an all over curvy quilting design .
All fixed up !!

What a wonderful outcome - I'm so happy for you and your son. It's strange isn't it just how much we put into our quilts - it's like giving away a piece of our very soul each time - but a small price to pay in this case.
Your story behind this quilt makes all the pretty colors go gray. This quilt has the most color of all due to the thought and memories that went into it. Thank you for sharing a wonderful moment. So happy for your family on the outcome

Everyone has said it so well already that I'm hard put to express myself! I just have to say "ditto" to them all and share your joy in your son's recovery. How true that our hearts and souls go into our quilts!

Wonderful quilt and wonderful story
A wonderful and thoughtful gift. Many people don't recognize doctors for a job well done, only want to punish them if aything goes wrong. I am sure the doctor really appreciated the quilt.
