Autumn

This time of year is the best , warm sunny days with a hint of a cool breeze .
We have had lots of showers so everything is so green.
I find summer in this climate a chore , energy levels drop with the increase in humidity.
So autumn brings with it lots more activity & for me that means lots of sewing & quilting !!!
Outdoors without heat stress & sunburn !!
I have a couple of projects in progress , nothing to show yet .
Maybe later today if I get far away from this screen .
Meanwhile here is this so pretty double gauze by Nani Ira .It is so soft to the touch.
What will it become ?

Here is my Mini .... it feels so clever to complete a quilt in an afternoon . It measures 9 1/2 x 9 1/2ins.
Liberty lawn pink & lavender prints , just for a change .

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Amy @ Park City Girls is hosting this great idea ...post your favourite quilt in her online festival !

I had to really think about this one !
It was a toss up between my very first quilt & a special quilt made last year.
I chose this one.
About this time last year we discovered that my 25 yr old son had a tumour deep in his brain.
So he had 6 months of pre-op tests .
All the while we were preparing ourselves for the complex & risky surgery necessary to remove the slow growing but damaging cyst .
It had already caused deficits in some major cranial nerves.
Worst part for me was the risk of damage to the vital nerves supplying face , sight , hearing & balance during the surgery that would leave him disabled .
My son had great respect & trust in his surgeon & this gave us all the reassurance we needed so badly.
The surgery was very long & difficult but our son is now completely recovered ... no deficits at all.
So this quilt was made by THE most grateful mother , for Robert Campbell , neurosurgeon & our hero !
It is a traditional block which started out as Lady of the Lake but somehow ended up as Birds in the Air, I cried a lot making this . It was machine pieced from lots of indigo civil war reproduction fabrics & a navy & cream shirting. Bound in red. Backed in a large navy & red paisley design fabric.

It was machine quilted by Cathy Davies in an all over curvy quilting design .

All fixed up !!

Sunday Stash

Don't you love it when you discover long hidden but much desired fabric hiding at the back of your shelves !!!
Some Heather Ross West Hill & 2 bits of creamy /rosy Urban Indigo by Fig Tree Quilts
I happily came across these pieces today whilst trying to distract myself from some unsuccessful stippling .
Tension not playing nice.
My upcoming machine quilting class can't come soon enough.

Here's what you get when you get too carried away making scrappy log cabin blocks , as I am want to do .
Cute little pillowy pin cushions.

Quilt for a brother-in-law

I have been slowly working my way through all of the family in a quest to supply all members with a quilt whether they like it or not .
They mostly like it !!
So now I am planning a quilt for my brother-in-law & think a simple design will be just the ticket.
Square in a square using lots of grey , stone & blue/greens & a layer cake of 1974 by Urban Chicks.

A big load of solids arrived this week for the frames.I'm thinking the clay coloured one is a cuckoo in the nest & will be ejected.

Am now thinking cuckoo looks quite fine against the neutrals

Now,if I could only finish those little time guzzlers , the scrappy log cabins, I could make a start.

Happy quilting .
